在我国古代，农历七月被称为“兰月”，七夕被称为“兰夜”，七月正是各类兰花生长的旺期，七夕赏兰，历来是文人墨客的雅事。而今夜，在兰花的氤氲中，诗词、书画、戏剧这些最为典型的中国元素都在这里汇聚。在座的老中青各位雅士济济一堂，真可谓群贤毕至，少长咸集。
在这里，我首先要向大家介绍到会的各位领导，他们是县政协副主席陈少越、县规划建设局局长李炜、县文联周立坦、周黎明两位主席。让我们对他们的到来表示热烈的欢迎。同时也对县规划建设局对此次活动的大力支持表示衷心的感谢。

追溯由牛郎织女传说形成七夕节的过程，时间当在战国，地点则在楚国。查经问典，《诗经·小雅·大东》中有“跂彼织女，终日七襄……睆彼牵牛，不以服葙”的诗句，这是有关牛郎织女传说最早的文字记录，是牛郎织女传说的雏形。还有一首与织女有关的《周南·汉广》中所述“汉有游女，不可求思”。据史料记载，诗中的“汉”即指汉水，又指天汉(银河)，“游女”是指汉水女神或织女星神。楚人雄距江汉地区，甚重祠祀“汉之游女”。另外，在楚地民间，常将牵牛星与河鼓三星搞混淆了。南北朝时南阳人宗懔的《荆楚岁时记》注文云：“牵牛星，荆州呼为‘河鼓’”。而在南阳汉画像石“牛郎织女星座”中，正是以河鼓为牵牛。居“汉水之北”的南阳，素有“枕伏牛而蹬江汉，襟三山而带群湖”之称。战国时，南阳属楚，楚始都于淅川丹阳，是楚文化的发源地，文化积淀深厚。如此的历史背景和文化底蕴，是形成牛郎织女传说的重要条件之一。

关于牛郎织女的传说，在全国各地的民间流传相当广泛，版本较多，但核心内容是基本一致的。神话传说自产生到流传过程中形成定型故事。一般与产生
地区的地名风物相粘连，这是神话传说地方化的一种表现形式，由此致使人们从感情上或从直观的感受上认为这个故事更具可信的色彩而广为传播。根据现代诸多的民俗之类的出
版物，大都记载牛郎织女传说起源于南阳，如海燕出版社的1997年版程健君的《民间神话》中有“牛郎是南阳县桑林人”之说，宗教文化出版社的《节俗》和三峡出版社的《中华民俗艺术大全》中均记载“相传在很早以前，南阳城西牛家庄有个聪明、忠厚的小伙子……”。在南阳桐柏县盘古开天发源地还流传着另一版本的牛郎织女传说：黄牛是在盘古开天辟地时，因为当时地上没有五谷，它将天仓中的五谷偷来撒向人间，因而被玉帝赐下天庭，摔断了腿。孙如意用百花露给黄牛治好了伤，黄牛帮助牛郎和织女成了家。后来，黄牛又不顾受罚，帮助织女和牛郎从天宫偷来蚕蓝、蚕种、织布机、织布梭等。自此，牛郎织女男耕女织，生活幸福。故事中还描述了织女如何传授养蚕、缫丝、织绸缎技术。不同版本传说中的人物、地点都指向了南阳，完全符合神话传说地方化的特征。
